Loren Ray Biggers
Loren was born January 30th, 1936 at home, in Mexico (That day was the coldest recorded for that date). Loren was born to parents Albert Franklin Biggers and Julia Elizabeth (Jones) Biggers.
Loren graduated from Mexico High School in 1954. On June 12th, 1955, Loren married Lorna Ruth Maupin of Middletown, MO at Centennial Baptist Church in Mexico, where they still serve today. Loren worked for Pearl Motor Company as a student and then for Carroll Motor Company, then going on to own his own Auto Repair, “Loren’s Tune-up Shop”, Mexico’s largest independent garage, along with an American Motors dealership. Later, Loren returned to Pearl Motor Company as Service Manager.
Afterwards, Loren started Biggers Construction along with his sons, building new homes, remodels, additions and commercial buildings, in and around Mexico. Upon retirement, Loren was able to fulfill his dream of working in his own woodworker shop. Loren used his talent as a carpenter to make many musical instruments, grandfather clocks, cabinetry. He loved to build and repair all types of furniture for family, friends, their church and many others upon request. In 2019, Loren decided to build a Mausoleum (their retirement home) for he and his wife Lorna, in which he did just that along with his sons and grandsons at Elmwood Cemetery. Loren then went on to build their satin lined caskets from walnut (his favorite wood).
Loren loved bluegrass and gospel music, and in 2002-2004, he sponsored Bluegrass festivals on their property west of Mexico on Highway 22. In 2006-2009, Loren worked with the Shriner’s to put together festivals on their property on Route J. For several years Loren and Lorna spent winters in Arizona in their motorhome and made many new friends. Loren loved to watch the Cardinals and Missouri Tigers.
Loren is survived by his wife Lorna; four sons, Steve (Kathy) Biggers of Granbury, Texas, Terry (Sarah) Biggers of Vanzant, Gary (Robin) Biggers of Auxvasse and Loren II (Joan) Biggers of Paducah, Kent.; 12 grandchildren, Joshua Biggers, Lucas Biggers, Shawn Biggers, Shannon Biggers, Slater Biggers , Zane Biggers, Loren Biggers III, Travis Biggers, Christian Biggers, Aaron Trausch, Amanda Blair, Bethany Holder; 30 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Davis of Moberly and Marilyn “May” Burdett of LaPalma, Calif., as well as several nieces and nephews.
Loren was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Betty Biggers; two brothers, Albert Biggers, Jr. and Tommy Biggers (who passed as an infant); one sister, Roberta and husband George I. Neale; brothers-in-law, Donald Davis, Bruce Burdett, Vernon Maupin and wife Agnes, Clifford Maupin and wife Lucille and Marilyn Maupin Hall.
Loren loved his family, always wanting to help and encourage them and showing interest in everything they did. He shared an undying love for his wife of 69 years of marriage. Loren will be greatly missed but kept alive in many memories.
Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, at Arnold Funeral Home with Rev. Bryce Kristofferson officiating. Entombment will be in the Biggers Mausoleum at Elmwood Cemetery.
Visitation is Friday evening from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
