Changes were made last year to the way Missouri voters pick who they would like to see run for president.
Last year Missouri lawmakers did away with the statewide presidential primary election and replaced it with party-run in-person caucuses.
The Audrain County Republicans will have an in-person caucus on Saturday, March 2, at the Audrain County Courthouse’s community room in the basement. Doors open at 8 a.m. and will be locked at 10 a.m.
Voter registration and a government ID are needed to participate and preregistration is recommended at mogop.org. Four delegates and four alternates will be elected for the congressional caucus on April 6 in Chillicothe and the state caucus on May 4 in Springfield.
Democrats will do things differently giving their voters the option of ballot voting by drop-off or by mail. Democrats will hold in-person caucus voting on Saturday, March 23, also at the Audrain County Courthouse from 8 a.m. to noon. Voters who are registered with the Missouri Secretary of State’s office by Feb. 21 will be allowed to vote as long as they are not registered as Republicans.
Mail-in ballots for the Democratic caucus are available now via missouridemocrats.org. Distribution of ballots will begin on Feb. 17 and will close on March 12. Ballots must be returned by 10 a.m. on March 23. Votes and ballots will be counted on March 25 and an announcement will be made by March 28.
