Lady Trojans run past Madison 63-11 for fifth straight win

The Community R-6 girls felt like they stretched their legs Tuesday night.

The Lady Trojans hosted Central Activities Conference foe Madison, winning 63-11 for their fifth straight victory. Community (12-2, 4-0 CAC) stormed out to a 22-2 lead after the first quarter and held Madison (1-10, 0-5 CAC) to no more than six points in each quarter, shutting them out in the fourth quarter.

Head coach Bob Curtis said all 15 players on the roster received playing time and nine of them scored. Sarah Angel led with 18 points and five steals, Kylie Brooks followed with 13 points and seven rebounds, Olivia Kuda had 10 points, and Kayla Jett finished with seven points.

“The press forced a lot of turnovers that led to runouts,” Curtis said. “Offensively, we are getting better, and our defense has given us a chance in about every contest we've had this year.”

Community R-6 travels to New Franklin (11-3, 3-0 CAC) at 6 p.m. Friday for the second straight week after competing in their tournament last week.

Trojans get bench involved in 59-25 victory against Madison

The Community R-6 boys were able to give kids minutes that don’t typically play them on Tuesday night.

The Trojans won 59-25 against Central Activities Conference foe Madison (1-8, 0-5 CAC), finishing with eight scorers.

Eli Johnson led with 15 points, Mason Carroll and Gavin Allen each followed with 14 points, Logan Johnson had seven points, and Tucker Robnett finished with six points. Clayton Jennings and Kyler Swaim were even able to score points off the bench this time with sixth man Grant Cope.

“It was nice for us to get to play some guys that haven’t seen a lot of minutes this year,” head coach Tad Shotten said. “We started off slow, which is something we have been doing for the last few games. This is an area and something we will look to improve on. Hopefully, our bench can contribute to us going forward.”

Community R-6 (8-7, 3-1 CAC) played conference foe and Class 2 No. 8 New Franklin (12-1, 3-0 CAC) again on Friday before traveling to Bunceton/Prairie Home (2-12) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Trojans wish to be more complete after 51-34 win at Chamois

The Community R-6 boys are happy about the win from Monday night at Chamois but thought it could have gone better.

The Trojans won 51-34 to move to 7-7 and were led by 28 points from Gavin Allen.

We will take the win, but overall we aren't happy with how we played collectively,” head coach Tad Shotten said. “We were sluggish, and again, got undisciplined at times. Give credit to Chamois (3-9) and coach (Glen) Bates. Everytime we felt like we were going to put them away, they would answer or go on a small run of their own. They played hard and ran their stuff consistently and made free throws. We will be working towards putting together more complete games in our upcoming games.”
