They were shining stars at the Mexico High School in theatre and they are now showing off their talents on a national stage.
Kylie Yeast and Riley Given are semifinalists in the Iren Ryan Scholarship at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival in Des Moines, Iowa.
Hundreds of students from around the Midwest are competing for scholarships during the competition. Given is performing two contrasting monologues. He as a 2020 MHS graduate and the son of Sara and Robert Given of Mexico.
Kylie Yeast is performing two monologues and a scene.
" I will perform a two minute monologue from Anton Chekov’s “The Seagull”, a one minute monologue from “Girl Talk” by Dori Appell and Carolyn L. Meyers, and a selected scene from “The Illusion” by Pierre Corneille, adapted by Tony Kushner. I am humbled and honored to be one of the 50 semi-finalists chosen from the 250+ nominees. I have always been deeply passionate about performance art and the opportunity to share the passion with industry professionals and receive feedback feels a bit surreal. This is a wonderful kick-start to a career in theatre," said Yeast.
Kylie is a 2019 graduate of MHS and is currently a senior majoring in theatre at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, MO. Her parents are Bill and Beverly Yeast and Lois and Craig Brace.
Given and Yeast will be competing in the regional scholarship competition this week.
The Irene Ryan Foundation awards 16 regional scholarships.
In some breakings news Kylie Yeast has advanced as a finalist in the Region 5 Irene Ryan Finals.
