The Mexico boys won their first matches of the season on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs had to work for them at home against School of the Osage (2-1) as Brendan McKeown won his singles match 10-8 and then took his doubles match with partner Declan Gleeson 11-10. Mexico still lost to Osage 7-2.

“We were shorthanded tonight with sickness and some prior engagements,” head coach Tony Senor said. “Quaid Grubb and Trevor Wright came to play some varsity matches. Also, Brendan McKeown won a close match. Declan also went the distance by playing 41 total games in his matches.”

Grubb and Wright lost their varsity matches decisively, but Wright won his junior varsity doubles match with partner David Schweim 8-1. Grubb lost his varsity doubles match with Boston Davolt 10-2.

In other varsity action, Gleeson lost his singles match 11-9, and Davolt fell in singles 10-7.

Mexico (0-3) plays its first district opponent at 4:30 p.m. today in a road match with Lutheran St. Charles.
