First it was the Big Apple with a performance at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in November, now a trip to The Emerald Isle in Dublin, Ireland. Marching Mizzou member and Mexico High School alum Lacey Schoneboom will be packing her bags to perform in the 2024 St. Patrick's Day Parade. Schoneboom is a 2020 Mexico High School graduate and plays clarinet for Marching Mizzou.
Marching Mizzou previously traveled to Ireland in 2012 and 2016, however was unable to attend in 2020 when it was postponed and then canceled due to COVID. Dr. Amy Knopps, associate director of bands and director of athletic bands, said after the postponement, she made a promise that those members would have the opportunity again to travel for the experience in 2024.
"She hinted at a big trip for a while and then changed into her green sweater and told us at rehearsal on Tuesday night . I am very excited for me and my band family and this will be my first trip out of the country," said Schoneboom.
The trip is offered to the members of the band through a study abroad program. The students will be required to pay for their trip, however can apply for financial aid. The trip in 2020 was estimated to cost about $3,000, but with inflation the band expects it will cost more in 2024.
The parade will be held on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 2024.
