Relay for Life host Survivor’s Dinner, more to come

Posted

Relay for Life of Audrain County hosted its annual Survivor's Dinner at the First Christian Church in Mexico last week as survivors and their families gathered for fellowship.

With a dinner provided by Pin Oaks Living Center and entertainment, Judy Kelly presented a slideshow of photos of the Relay since 2003.  About 50 survivors and caregivers enjoyed the dinner - 75 are registered with the organization.

Kelly Hooper served as the speaker for the evening, speaking on hope during a cancer journey and how the community can support those fighting for their life. The evening concluded with a raffle, an announcement of the Relay for Life quilt made by Susan Paden, and a reminder that the ice cream social where people can pick up their relay shirts will be at the end of August.

People can purchase shirts for the 25th annual event online or in person at Graphitti, 224 West Promenade.

It is not too late to create a team and register or purchase a luminary to honor a loved one.

If someone would like to do so, contact Nancy Early  (573-721-6247) or Linda Reid (573-581-7547).

Ten teams are already registered.

More upcoming events that will support Relay for Life for Audrain County are approaching.  Things will get going the week before the relay set for 6-10 p.m.  Sept. 10 including the "Color the Town Purple" to build excitement.

The Relay for Life takes place on the east side of Town Square.

Stores will be encouraged to decorate their windows, Friends Fighting as One will host a dessert auction and everyone in the town will be encouraged to wear purple for a purple-out, and Color Me Bleu Studio and Coffee Shop, 123 North Washington, will host a Relay for Life painting class.

Make sure to follow Relay for Life of Audrain County to stay current on what is occurring.

The positive impact of the American Cancer Society can be felt right here in Audrain County with the grant just given to three non-profit hospitals in Central Missouri.

If you are a cancer patient and need assistance with transportation costs to get to your doctors' appointments, make sure to ask your medical team about this grant to see if you would qualify.

Also, survivors that haven’t registered with the Relay for Life are encouraged to reach out to chairs Susan Paden (573-473-8241) or Linda Reid (573-581-7547).

Note

Another Relay for Life Survivor event is set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30 with an ice cream social with a location to be determined.

Currently, $29,365.37 has been raised through the Relay for Life this year according to event officials.
