Posted

North Callaway had a tough first few games to open the season on Saturday.

The Ladybirds finished 1-2 against three teams with a combined  57-25-1 last season to finish fourth in the Hallsville Invitational. They defeated reigning district champion Salisbury 8-3, then lost 13-0 to reigning district champion Hallsville and just fell short to Southern Boone in the third-place game.

Five Ladybirds record five hits in a six-run first inning against Salisbury, they were no-hit against Hallsville and fell couldn't muster anymore runs in the fifth inning following a late Southern Boone (three unearned runs allowed) error.  Megan Schmidt had eight strikeouts and four hits allowed in six innings to Salisbury.

North Callaway plays its home opener at 5 p.m. Tuesday against South Callaway.
