Missouri Military Academy will be heading to the swimming and diving state meet.
That is something that hasn’t been said at all at MMA since the program was resurrected in 2019. The Colonels are scheduled to compete in five events, starting with the preliminaries on Friday at the City of St. Peters Rec-Plex, including the 200-yard medley relay, the 500 freestyle, the 200 free relay, the 100 backstroke and the 100 breaststroke.
Senior Anthony Melick, sophomore Tiago Ruas Deluca, junior Paulo Pereira de Abreu Donabella and sophomore Malachi Imrie are expected to swim on the relays with junior Brayden Phelps and senior Benjamin Hunyh listed as alternates. The medley relay team goes in with the seventh-fastest seed time in its heat, and the freestyle team owns the fourth-fastest seed time in its heat, with the top-eight times going to the finals to clinch a state medal today.
For the individual events, Melick qualified for the 100 back — an event in which he owns the school record — with the sixth-fastest seed time in his heat. Ruas Deluca has the sixth-fastest seed time in his heat for the 500 free, and Pereira de Abreu Donabella has the sixth-fastest seed time in his 100-breast heat.
