The Audrain County Prosecuting Attorney's Office applied for and obtained an arrest warrant for 43-year-old Brandon S. Spears as a result of fires that occurred in the early morning hours of Dec. 23, 2022.

According to a press release sent out by Mexico Public Safety on Jan. 27, Spears is charged with 1st degree murder, two counts of first degree arson and armed criminal action. In addition, Spears has an active arrest warrant from the Missouri Department of Probation and Parole for a probation violation. Spears was a resident of the apartment building that burned and the son of 60-year-old Ruth Ann Stuart who died in the incident.

The fires took place on Dec 23, at an apartment building in the 1200 block of West Breckenridge Drive and at the Miller Warehouse.

"At this time there is no indication that the Harwood fire that happened on Jan. 6, is linked to the fire that took place on Dec. 23," said Major Brice Mesko with Mexico Public Safety. "Mexico Public Safety is working with other law enforcement agencies trying to locate Spears," said Mesko.

Anyone with information about the investigation or Spears' location is asked to contact CRIMESTOPPERS at (800) 392-8477 or the Mexico Public Safety Department at (573) 581-2100 or (573) 473-5800.
