Ladybirds defeat Winfield 47-41 for fifth place in Bowling Green

The North Callaway Ladybirds defeated a team its didn't a season ago in Bowling Green.

They won 47-41 against Class 4 Winfield (7-9) on Friday in the Bowling Green Tournament fifth-place game to take home the consolation trophy for the second straight year. Winfield was the team that put North Callaway (9-9) in the consolation bracket a year ago with a 68-67 game. North Callaway lost to Louisiana 56-43 and then beat Van-Far 40-33 to make it to Friday's game. Lakyn Hartley led the Ladybirds with 12 points, four steals and three assists, Natalie Shryock had 12 points and four 3-pointers -- all in the second half and three in the fourth quarter -- and Livia Hartley finished with 10 points. Olivia Van Cleave led Winfield with 17 points and three 3-pointers, and Claire Showmake had six points and eight rebounds.

North Callaway hosts Class 3 No. 8 Highland (19-2) at 6 p.m. Monday.
