Representative Kent Haden recently welcomed constituents Travis and Bethany Dixon of Laddonia, Mo., to the Missouri State Capitol in recognition of their achievement from the Outstanding Farmers of America as one of the nation’s top four winners of the National Outstanding Young Farmers Award.
The Outstanding Farmers of America began in 1955 and is focused on fostering strong relationships and offering opportunities for education and networking to facilitate exchange of ideas that encourage excellence and involvement in agriculture within the local, state, and national levels.
This achievement is the highest honor from the organization and lends credence to the couple as a new generation of leaders in the field of agriculture.
What started out 12 years ago as a 7,500 hog operation on 400 acres has increased and is expected to hit 2,000 acres within the next year. The Dixons emphasize soil nutrition for their farm through new means of technology and even conduct trials on their land, sharing results with other farmers in an attempt to find even better ways to manage their crops and protect their soil.
Representative Haden, having worked for the Missouri Department of Agriculture and is a member of Missouri Pork Producers and numerous other industry-related positions, was elated to have the Dixons as esteemed guests to the Capitol. As the esteemed party took their place on the House dais next to House Speaker Dean Plocher for introductions, Haden, R-Mexico, stated, "It is with extreme pride that I stand before the members of this body today to recognize a couple from my district that are contributing to our agricultural industry through their farming. Farmers are the backbone of this country. I believe they are not only deserving of this national platform but also to be recognized locally for their contributions. Travis and Bethany Dixon represent the best of our state.”
