The Community R-6 boys struggled after about three weeks without a game.
The Trojans were back in the New Franklin Tournament last week after Christmas break and tournament postponements that forced first-round games to last Wednesday. They lost 75-22 to Westran, who received votes in the most recent Class 2 state poll, and then lost 71-33 to Central Activities Conference foe Pilot Grove on Thursday.
Community (2-10) was eighth seed against the top-seeded Westran (10-3) and only had three points going into halftime. Cooper Rohan and Layton Wright each had five points to lead the Trojans.
“We couldn't find a way to get our shots to fall,” head coach Kody Asquith said. “Some of our shots started to fall (in the second half), but it wasn't enough. We could potentially see them again in the Sturgeon Tournament so we know what we are up against so we can better prepare ourselves for them.”
Community had a better start against Pilot Grove (7-4) by only trailing 21-15 after the first quarter. Asquith said the Trojans started falling behind after that.
“We struggled locking down their shooters and they got a big jump on us,” Asquith said. “They are a good team that is well-coached and very aggressive at creating turnovers. We get to see them again later on this season so we are going to try to see what we can work on to be better prepared for them then.”
Caden Thomas led Community with 15 points and five 3-pointers, and Clayton Jennings followed with seven points.
Community (1-2 CAC) plays at conference foe and New Franklin tournament champion New Franklin (9-3, 1-1 CAC) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
